Fruit-growing
Mrzla noč, topel dan, takrat jabolko pobarva.
In the past, fruit-growing was a complementary agricultural activity, as meadow orchards spread all over the green terraces of Brkini. The ancient varieties of fruit trees still add a distinctive character to the cultural landscape. The most common fruit species are apples, pears, cherries and plums, locally known as 'češplje'.
Because of their sustainable nature, meadow orchards are important habitats for many plant and animal species, preserving the varietal diversity and beauty of the landscape, which was formed through traditional farming practices.
